With only 7 days remaining until the election, I had planned on being silent. I know, I know as hard as that is for me. But a few things altered my decision this week. The first being, the absurd notion that the Des Moines Register had the balls to endorse Mitt Romney, not because they endorsed him, I'll go over their idiotic decision later. But also the Storm "Sandy" which has proved a few major talking points that have been ignored during this campaign. We'll also discuss college football, the lackluster World Series and my general distain for a few modern view points on relationships tonight. The latter first, then the important stuff.. Shall we?
Relationships are hard! ok! Get over it! I'm sick of listening about people's problems. I love my friends, all of them. I will always be a sounding board for them. I'm not mad about being there for my friends. What bothers me, is when they recognize they have troubles and refuse to do anything about them. Hell, I'm the first to admit; most if not ALL of mine have been just awful! I'm the poster child for a bad relationship! But my problem was, I didn't or couldn't recognize them. I didn't realize it was/they were bad until it was too late. If you know or see it is a bad thing, get the eff out of it! Listen to your friends, trust they see it first. And move the eff on! What's next?
AS good as baseball was this season, the playoffs left us so much more to wish for. For the first time in years, I didn't care about the playoffs or the World Series. Giants and Tigers did nothing for the collective sports world. It's sad bc as our "past time" it was been replaced by football. We're caught up by more of NFL and NCAA football than we are by baseball. I just found it so uninspiring. Your thoughts? zzzzz... What's next?
I am the President of the official Notre Dame haters club! As a die hard Michigan fan, Notre Dame is the 'Devil' as far as I'm concerned. But with a win over Oklahoma in their house, you have to respect the 'Irish' again. I'm looking at the college landscape, and have to admit, although we've gotten rid of the BCS not until 2014; it could blow up again this year. If we have an unbeaten Alabama, we all know they are #1. But an unbeaten Oregon, currently #4, an unbeaten K-State #2 and an unbeaten Notre Dame #3; what do we do? This is why a 'playoff' makes sense. The "eye test" tells me, 'Bama and Oregon are the best teams. But ND's defense and K-State clearly have a case! We can't get rid of the BCS fast enough!
B1G basketball season will be the best in the nation! As a former NCAA Div 1 and Div. 3 basketball player, I'm loving this! Get ready for Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Mich State to set the pace for the season. What's next?
So, now onto what most of you are reading this for. My take on the politics fix for the week. A few things really jumped out at me this week thus far. Gov. Romney is running a few campaign ads that are just wrong! Flat out lies! The ad about Jeep, a major Toledo area plant sending jobs to China has been refuted by Jeep execs. themselves! This Jeep plant is located just outside of Toledo, in fact is located on Oregon Rd. I believe. They made a public statement after the Gov. released this ad, saying they WILL NOT cut any Ohio jobs. But rather, it is going to expand! Expand in China, this is true, because it is the world's largest market; but NOT CUT ANY AMERICAN JOBS! Second, is how blatently the GOP nominee says this is fact! The other, is the GOP nominee's attempt to claim GM is cutting jobs! Or will do so! GM also has said they will not cut any projects in America. This attempt by the Romney campaign is not fooling anyone connected or affiliated with the auto industry bc they know better! But reaching the low information voters. I've told you, my loyal readers, that you MUST reach these low information voters to give them the facts. As I've said, I won't tell you how to vote. That's immoral! But I want everyone to have the facts!....
Moving on, I'd also like to discuss with my Iowa readers, a VERY VERY VERY BIG MATTER! The Des Moines Register endorsed Gov. Romney on Saturday. While I have no issue nor take any exception with a paper's editorial board endorsing any candidate. For it is their right. My taking exception with this endorsement here is the paper's complete disregard for their principles. Principles they are ignoring or abandoning from the last 30 years! You see, in 1972 was the last time this paper endorsed a GOP candidate. Yeah, that's right. Nixon in '72. As I have mentioned above, in 72, McGovern was the right man for the job. When he died last week we lost a true good man of our government! We lost Arlen Spector the week before. Two of the best politicians left us; and we're left to make the best. With this group of characters. What happened with Nixon and McGovern, who was the vote against the war in Vietnam? Not Nixon! Yet, the Des Moines Register backed him! Even after the 'WaterGate' story broke; the Des Moines Register backed him!
So in 2008, what did the paper do? Well, they backed Obama. Why? Bc, supporting the health care was a good thing? The Des Moines Register said it was a good thing! The impact, that health care for everyone mattered was important then. This is so important!
I challenge you, go back to Oct, 25th 2008! Read the op ed board and thier decision. The Des Moines Register, made a huge mistake this weekend! I will put out my final electoral college projection this weekend.
